Trauma & Emergency Surgery Service of Istanbul Medical School, receives around 11,000 patients annually, 6,000 of which are trauma patients. Of these patients almost 2,500 are hospitalized and 2,200 surgical interventions are performed per year. The service is ranked as the second among more than 60 departments of the faculty.

Patients other than trauma, burns or hypovolemic shock are admitted to this area. There is a resting area for doctors, nurses and interns. Patients exam and follow-up is done in the 8 beds of this unit. Following with the year 2002, Department of Orthopedics admits it’s patients in the Trauma & Emergency Surgery Service.

This brings a serious advantage for polytrauma patients, and prevents the transfer of patients between departments. There is an additional unit for reconstructive procedures.
