Resident Training

Residents of the Surgical Department of Istanbul Medical School rotate in the surgical emergency unit for two months every year. All residents of Surgery are on call two or three times a year during their five-year residency period. During weekdays 6 residents of surgery attend rounds, assist surgical interventions, and follow patients. During the shifts there is always one physician and six residents of Surgery, two residents from Orthopedics, 3 residents from Anesthesiology, and two residents from Neurosurgery stay in house.

A journal club meeting is carried out two days a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) from 07:00 AM until 07:45 AM, where residents deliver talks on current issues related to our field. All residents are motivated for research and publishing. The department supports residents to present their work in scientific meetings.

Several surgery residents visit our unit for a limited period. They try to increase their knowledge on this field and learn our algorithms for several diseases. In addition to these, residents from Germany or Bulgaria visit our unit periodically.
